Trailer Production

 22nd January 2018

On the 20th January we began to film the shots that were mainly recorded in the house. This is because it was easier to shoot and get a little done and edited for our trailer. Within this production day we filmed some of the short takes that occurred during the middle of out trailer for instance:

- The panicking scenes
- The scream
-The running scene on the stairs

Filming this gave us a broader idea of how we wanted the fast paced scenes to turn out.

What Went Well:

We were able to film these scenes quickly because it was just recorded in the house therefore we didn't have to ask for permission and also these short scenes did not require us to use much time. Also taking the pictures on this day was helpful because it meant that some of us could make a start on the posters whilst other edited the trailer.

Even Better If:

I believe that our filming day would have been more successful if we had the whole group at the chosen location of these scenes because we would have gotten more done for the day especially the scenes I was personally in, there would have been a range of shots to work from and also more opinions on the different angles we used for the fast paced scenes and the film poster.

26th January 2018

We filmed the 'restaurant' scenes at the school, however we used a classroom as apart of showing that the girls were studying instead of being at a restaurant. This is because we felt a restaurant may have been complicated as there are risks of disturbing the public and also because we had dialogue within these scenes it would have been harder to have the flow of the shots because of the background noise from members of the public. We also filmed some of the fast paced scenes as a way of showing suspense created at different locations.

What Went Well:

I believe that on this day was the day we got most of the filming done because we were able to use different locations of the school as apart of showing the suspense taking place. It also meant that we would have more editing to do therefore the trailer was becoming complete slowly.

Even Better If:

This session of filming would have been slightly less time consuming if we had begun straight away and also if we didn't have to film the scenes several times to get it right. However, though we had to film several times on each scene, it was beneficial as it allowed us a range of shots and to pick out the best ones.

29th January 2018

On this shot we decided to film some more of the fast paced scenes but at a different house. On this day we filmed the scenes that had me in them and also some shots of the girls lashing out. We wanted to complete the fast paced scenes earlier as these were the only short takes of the trailer.

What Went Well:

We got most of the fast paced shots done which we were able to add to our sequence, therefore the story line was starting to make sense and it also meant that we didn't have a huge amount to film after this.

Even Better If:

I believe that this session was successful because we were all more focused on just trying to get the filming done to a high standard, the only problem was the small interruptions we had due to it being a someones household.

Editing session 1
29th January 2018

On this day we decided to edit the first sequence of the trailer whereby the girls were in the classroom studying and then they begin to plan Chris' murder. We also added some of the short takes further up in the sequence to see what shots we need for the next time we film.

What Went Well:

We completed the first sequence which I believe was the main bit for us and also we have started to put together the fast paced scenes which means that we have a further understanding and interpretation of how we want our next shots to look.

Even Better If:

I do believe that if we had more shots to work from, we could have made more use of the time during the session however it was the bare minimum.

Editing session 2
30th January 2018

During session 2, we decided to add titles along our sequence just so that we have one more extra bit done and so that we have an idea of what type of font we would like to use.

What Went Well:

In this session, by choosing the font early and also adding them earlier it makes it much easier for us later on as we will not have to worry about any of the titles. It was also time efficient as we did not take too much time finding or making the title.

Even Better If:

Again in this session, we didn't have much to work from but we ensured we used the timje wisely for the title.

31st January 2018

On the 31st January we filmed some more shots that we were missing in school. This was one of the days where we did have the whole group there therefore we were able to film the missing scenes that we needed. This day was more about filming the scenes that were needed but couldn't be filmed without the whole group there. We filmed the screaming scene on this day and also the scene where I dragged one of the actresses as part of showing we were already blaming her for what had happened to Chris and also the police file reports.

What Went Well:

We were able to get all the shots we had in the school done therefore it became easier to edit and we could start adding some incidental music to the film for the suspense. It was also less time consuming because we already had a variety of shots in the school.

Even Better If:

As we wanted to finish the shots in the school, I felt as though the filming for this day was a little rushed because looking back on our footage I realised we didn't have a variety of the same shots to pick from.

Editing session 3
1st February 2018

During session 3 we began to add more of the shots and also added some incidental music along these shots.

What Went Well:

We had a forming trailer and this gave us an idea of how long our trailer is going to be and whether we needed to cut it short. The incidental music that we have added has also given us a clearer understanding of the atmosphere we have been  trying to go for.

Even Better If:

We had a a lot of shots to work from however, some of the scenes we chose to add were hard to put into sequence because of the fast speaking therefore we knew we were going to have to replace this anomaly.

2nd February 2018

This was the day we decided to film the 'Chris' scenes and also the scenes that had the crime scene. Though our fast paced scenes were merely done, we wanted to add some shots of the crime scene to show that there was an investigation going and to also make the death seem more believable. The way in which Chris was killed was the way we the girls had mentioned it in the previous shots whereby he was killed using the bare hands in a seductive way. As it was hard to do we reckon if we slow down the pace of these scenes it would look a little seductive along with the lipstick print on his neck.

What Went Well:

The whole of Chris' scenes were done along with the crime scene therefore we could add more suspense within the trailer using his shots. As it was only these shots it didn't take long to do but it also wasn't rushed due to the range of shots we had filmed.

Even Better If:

Due to it being a far destination for the guy we used as out Chris, we did start the filming late therefore we had to wait a while and it slowed the filming down, however the filming session we had was good because we had enough shots.

4th February 2018

On the 4th February I did a quick scene outside my house of the memorial. This was to make it seem like Chris was well respected and loved by everybody he knew. This also was to add suspense into our trailer being the catalyst of the guilt the girls begin to feel.

What Went Well:

The filming was done very quick therefore not much time was taken. I also was able to get a range of shots within this memorial to use at different stages of the trailer.

Even Better If:

Due to it being dark and the wind hissing it was harder to get shots as these were a disruption. The wind hissing means that I will have to quieten the sound and use non-diagetic sound as a replacement.

5th February 2018

This day was the last day we filmed, we filmed the last two shots of  the two characters who are known as the 'shy' one and 'sporty' one.

What Went Well:

These shots allowed us to get a final and complete trailer. We were also able to get a variety of shots from the police station and the park to create suspense.

Even Better If:

Again on this day the session did feel rushed since we had to move from one location to another in time before it got dark.

Editing session 4
6th February 2018

On this day we added Chris' murder and also some of the crime scenes within this bit of the trailer.

What Went Well:

We were able to complete the trailer and also see whether we needed to make any additional changes towards the scenes we have added and the music we included. From watching it back we did realise that our trailer was too long therefore we knew we were going to have to cut it down before we could add any of the titles or release date.

Even Better If:

I believe that this editing session may have been more successful if the whole group contributed to an input what to keep and take out in order to shorten it.

Editing session 5
8th February 2018

During this session, we cut down the trailer and moved some of the scenes across. This meant that we had rearrange some of the sequence and also some of the incidental music so that it could much.

What Went Well:

We did initially finish cutting out the bits that were not so relevant or gave too much information. This was successful as it we were then able to finish off the titles and add additional sound effects to make it more thriller.

Even Better If:

This editing session was completely time consuming as we were stuck on what to get rid of therefore it required some of us to stay back after school to just fix a few things.

Magazine Production

22nd January 2018

On this day we have chosen to take pictures for our magazine poster; this has allowed us to make a start on the posters quicker leaving us enough time to make any relevant changes to the pictures or the colours we have decided to use.

What Went Well:

Already on this day we were able to see the reoccurring colours that we are likely to use on the poster. We have taken a range of pictures at different angles to see what one will be suited for the magazine. We have realised that taking these pictures individually will make the editing much easier for us as it means that if there is anything wrong with an image we do not have to get the whole group to come again but rather just the one person.

Even Better If:

The only problem is that the white background we needed was too narrow therefore harder for us to take pictures however, we were able to work with what we have got.

Editing session 1

26th January 2018

Within this session we managed to use the magic wand to cut round the girls and place them on to our chosen background which we had made. After doing that we used the grid to center these character in the middle of the poster so that it is clear that they are the main image of the magazine cover. After this we finally decided to add the empire logo however because red was one of our theme colours we used the bucket to fill the colour of the letters in red.

What Went Well:

We were able to get the main image put on to the poster straight away which I believe would have been the hardest part later on as it was important for us to have the colours blend along with the image and background.

Even Better If:

I believe that we have got more done in this session than what we actually expected therefore it was a successful editing session for the process of our magazine cover.

Editing session 2

31st January 2018

On the 31st January we have decided to start adding the cover line and also some pugs using the banner tool. We decided on having black as our colour as we wanted to use dark colours that represent the thriller and mystery genre.

What Went Well:

We have got an idea of the colours we would like to use for the magazine cover.

Even Better If:

We have had difficulty deciding on a font that fits the poster well and its themes but also the banner itself does not seem to match or fit the poster well.

Editing session 3

1st February 2018

In this session me and Sonila decided to get rid of the banner and replace it with the barcode for now as we were stuck on how we wanted the banner to look for the poster and the colour to use so that it doesn't look too odd.

What Went Well:

The barcode was easy to cut out and place on the magazine cover.

Even Better If:

This bit of the poster felt a little rushed because we only placed the barcode but didn't correct anything else.

Editing session 4

2nd February 2018

We've decided to add the title of our film to our film magazine cover. Though we're not quite sure of which type of font we do prefer we have decided to test out a few.

What Went Well:

We were able to take quite a lot of time to see what font is best suited therefore our session didn't feel too rushed.

Even Better If:

Most of the fonts we have seen have been looking odd to us and doesn't seem like it suits our image therefore even though we spent time looking for a decent we still haven't found the ideal one we would like to use.

Editing session 5
6th February 2018

Today we decided to test out a few more fonts for our magazine cover and we also added the banner at the end which included a few famous actors and actresses to make it seem more realistic of an empire magazine cover.

What Went Well:

After this session we finally had a font that we believed we could work from. This font also allowed our magazine cover to stand out and look more unique.

Even Better If:

I believe that finally finding the title meant that this session has been successful however this process was quite time consuming.

Editing session 6
7th February 2018

This is the final look of our magazine cover where we also finally added the pug along our poster to make it seem more catchy and fascinating to see.

What Went Well:

We were able to finish our final magazine cover and ensure that the fonts and colours we were using blended well together and were not too bright.

Even Better If:

Although this is our final edit of the magazine cover, I do believe that there is improvements we could make within this cover such as the use of our space in our background however, I am happy with our first edit.

Film Poster Production

22nd January 2018

On this day we decided to also take pictures for the film poster as our main theme was red and to look very mysterious. We took individual pictures of each character several times to get the best angle.

What Went Well:

We got all the shots done therefore we can make a start on our poster earlier. We were also able to get different angles to see what shots of pictures are best suited.

Even Better If:

If we had more time to take the pictures as we were focusing more on getting the filming done rather than the pictures to a high standard.

Editing session 1
5th February 2018

During this session we decided to firstly make the background and add on the new layers to make each triangle in order to fit the girls.

What Went Well:

We were able to get all the girls on to the poster and we were also able to create the triangular layers using the banner therefore the time that we spent was very product as it was more than half of the poster done already for us.

Even Better If:

We had a range of shots to work from to see what is best suited for each triangle.

Editing session 2
 7th February 2018

In this session we decided to add the title, the starring actors and also the tagline to the poster to make it feel more realistic. We used the white stroke around the fonts that were black to convey innocence but also guilt and darkness hence the title of the film 'Not Guilty.'

What Went Well:

We managed to get the title, the starring actors and the tagline onto the poster. The time we spent doing this was productive as we did have to spend sometime looking at different fonts to see what one matches best with the thriller genre but also match the plot of our trailer and its purpose.

Even Better If:

Although we did get the aim of that session done, it was very time consuming picking out fonts therefore I do believe it feels like the title, starring actors and tagline have just been scattered across the poster rather than placed appropriately to look professional.

Editing session 3
 8th February 2018

On this day we finished the final touches of the poster where we were planning to add the billing block, the production company logo and the certificate. However, we ended up adding an extra character on the poster in the middle. The reason for him being in the middle is to show that he is the one who is murdered and the girls that surround him in the poster is either or has something to do with his death.

What Went Well:

We did manage to get the male character in the poster and fit him so that he seems more victimized.

Even Better If:

If we were able to get the billing block and the logos done in time as the cutting and placing the character was time consuming which meant that it took more time than we expected therefore not enough was put on the poster.

Final Edits

Final Trailer Production

In our final edit we decided to spend the whole day adding transitions and rearranging and cutting the beginning of the trailer so that it does no longer feel like an opening. We also decided to change the colour of the shots where the girls speak of Chris to emphasise how it is past tense of what they had actually said.

Editing session 1
13th March 2018

What Went Well:

We were able to get the editing done and rearranged within that one day whereby it felt more like a trailer and it didn't seem too repetitive.

Even Better If:

We were able to film some shots again to add some more emphasis upon the suspense and the mystery so that it could interest the viewers even more.

Final Magazine Cover

Editing session 1
14th March 2018

In this session we decided to move the coverlines so that they were not blocking the main image and also to ensure that the lines flowed well with one another. We also made the pug a little smaller because in the previous edit it just about covered one of the main characters of the image which is not typical of an Empire magazine.

What Went Well:

The magazine cover in this final edit now looks more realistic and also more organised which is the way of getting it to attract to our intended target audience.

Even Better If:

I do believe that we could have added better captions in order to make it fit the plot of our film or even the characters so that to some extent it links.

Final Film Poster

Editing session 1
15th March 2018

On this day we wanted to sort out the images and also the colour of the triangles as the grey/beige colour did not convey thriller at all. However, as there were so many layers we had to use most of the time to sort out the layers and get rid of any that were unnecessary.

What Went Well:

We managed to get the different layers sorted and also resize each image so that it looks more suited.

Even Better If:

We didn't manage to get enough done only because we spent so much time sorting out the layers therefore more time was invested in ordering rather than actually serving the purpose we had for the poster.

Editing session 2
16th March 2018

Today we finished the poster by spending time selecting the colours of the triangle, adding the tagline and changing each of the reviews to a well suited place on the poster. We also changed the colours of the font so that it looked more organised and so it could match with the theme. We also added the production company logo, web link and BBFC certificate classification.

What Went Well:

We were able to finish the poster to the best of our abilities and ensure that the finished product looked realistic and suited to the genre and plot of our film.

Even Better If:

We had better images to work from so that the thrill genre can further be conveyed and so that the girls look more mysterious.
